Becoming A Partner Church
In September 2021, we partnered with Coventry Diocese to become the training provider for the Mission Apprenticeship Scheme, which is key to supporting the diocesan growth strategy of planting 150 new worshipping communities by 2030.
And we are also delighted to be partnering with individual churches across the diocese to resource internships. We offer a package of training and formation to interns, who gain ministry experience in partner churches, thereby enriching the mission and ministry of your church.
With nominal academy fees (payable either by the student or the church), partnering with us means that having an intern becomes an affordable and realistic possibility, however large or small your church is.
Our hope is that some of these interns, from churches around the diocese, will go on to become mission apprentices, taking up part-time paid roles in church plants across Coventry Diocese. Such mission apprentices would continue their training through the Academy’s Year 2 programme.
We would love you to partner with us in raising up a generation of emerging missionary leaders across our region! Start the conversation by contacting us at academy@stmarkscoventry.org
How Will My Church Benefit?
1. Teaching Programme
Your interns audit year 1 of the St. Marks Academy teaching programme. They benefit from an exceptional teaching programme that is theologically robust and practically applied, and would be part of a wider cohort of students from around the region with whom to share their experiences. Teaching currently takes place on Thursday morning at St. Marks Church.
2. Ministry Placement
Your interns will have a ministry placement in one or more areas of specialism. It’s up to you whether this placement is paid or voluntary, full or part time.
Each intern will need a suitable supervisor for their ministry placement, with the Academy offering appropriate training and support for people in this role.
3. Personal Formation
Personal formation is fundamental to Christian leadership, and your interns will engage in a formational journey through group sessions and 1:1 work with the Academy Leader, which normally takes place on Thursday afternoons. Each student will also have a personal mentor, outside the Academy, to help them grow in prayer, spirituality, character, and discipleship, and we work with interns to help them identify someone suitable.
What Are My Responsibilities?
Interns would be members of your church and staff team, and you would be responsible for:
Recruitment - Partner churches are responsible for recruiting their own interns. However, if potential candidates apply to St. Marks Academy and are unsure where to do their placement, it may be that we can direct them towards a suitable placement church.
Employment - Partner churches are responsible for contracts and/or codes of conduct with their interns. St. Marks Academy can support this process by sharing good practice and sample documentation.
Our Partners
We are immensely grateful for the churches who are already partnering with us already to equip and send forward alive-to-God leaders.
